Monday 30th Janury at 7.30pm is the first Voice Workshop of the year at Raveningham.

Bridget Cousins will be here to wake up those voices that have been in hibernation with her mix of traditional and contemporary songs. If you haven’t been before and fancy trying it or you have resolved to sing more this year come along,everyone is welcome at these informal but rewarding evenings. £10 per person for 2 hours tuition in a small group.

LINO Cuts “cave paintings” style.  Sunday 19th February 10.30am-4.30pm
Welcome to develop own design from sketches and photos with support of teacher, and then have a go at making a plate – using cutting tools. There will be rural crafts, photographs and Paper cuts by village ladies to explore, with a few words by Elisabeth about ancient beliefs, and with music. We will then be cutting Colourful images inspired by these old traditions after a demonstration, its not difficult and fun, ages 15 to 70+ welcome. Fee £12 includes all art materials. Aborigine DOTS & Lines inspired Painting, Sunday 18th March 10.30-4pm
Everybody can try this; we’ll view reproductions of various old and more recent paintings from Australia, chat about old traditions, do a brief Meditation, and then make our Own Dream images. Each workshop will start with a 3/4 mile stroll through the last enchanted land of “The Saints”, a few miles outside Bungay, stopping en route to choose, draw and photograph an inspiring view.  Your view will be the basis of your landscape artwork.

The three artists have been chosen because they each use very different approaches to landscape art and very different techniques.

Katarzyna Coleman uses all kinds of black and white media – from charcoal to chalk.  Views are built up in layers, partly erased with putty and plastic rubbers, fixed with fixative, built up again……….    The results are magnificent, massive, misty land and townscapes.

Saturdays  21st and 28th July 11am to 3.30 pm both days.
Mary Spicer uses texture, as well as colour. Adding all manner of texture pastes, acrylics, coloured inks, ripped, torn and reassembled paper, to her compositions she produces powerful 3D mixed media paintings of the farmed landscape, often scarred and criss crossed by farm machinery.

Sarah Cannell uses “Plextol” to transfer parts of black and white photocopies of printouts of photographs onto MDF.  Embedded in the picture plane these prints form mysterious black and white focal points in the midst of haunting, acrylic & mixed media, colour paintings.

 Completed works will be shown  as part of “Celebrate the Waveney & Blyth” September 2012 programme, when the public will be invited to walk and enjoy the views for real – and the views’ artistic interpretations.

29th February 2012 Inspiring Seascapes
Gt. Yarmouth Museums has a stunning collection of seascapes in its art collection, ranging from Cotman to Maggie Hambling.  Philip Harvey is artist in residence on this workshop and will teach the techniques used to create such artworks.

7th March, 2012 Hand Painted Glass
Based on the collection of ornate decorative glass at the Elizabethan House Museum,  this workshop will teach techniques to enable you to create your own painted glass.

14th March 2012 The Secrets of Watercolours
A great opportunity to explore the reserve art collection kept in store, with explanation of the techniques used in watercolour paintings provided by an artist in residence.

About Bridget Cousins

Bridget has been leading community choirs since 1994. An experienced musician and performer in her own right, she  founded Halesworth Community choir and the Gipping Valley Community choir and co-teaches the YoxVox singing group  in Yoxford, Suffolk. She has worked extensively in Suffolk schools with the Sing Up programme and often works for  Suffolk Artlink, taking musical activities to people who would not otherwise have the opportunity to enjoy them.  She teaches an eclectic harmony repertoire which includes African, Balkan, Maori, French, British and German folk songs,  Gospel and her own compositions.

We look forward to welcoming you to Raveningham.

It was good to bump into Mark Leech resting on a bench in the Great Yarmouth Library Community Garden this morning and to have a chance to look through his latest sketchbook that he happened to have with him. 

Mark helps out as a volunteer in the Growing Together Community Garden where an amazing crop of vegetables has already been harvested this year – onions, garlic, herbs, mange tout, radishes, courgettes, French beans, broad beans, lettuces!   There are fruit trees in the garden and lavender, attracting butterflies and bees.  Caroline Fernandez is keen to welcome new -volunteers who would like to help in the garden and share in the harvest on Tuesday mornings, 10.00-12.00 hrs.  She can be contacted on 01493 855441 or 07825281846 or by email at caroline.fernandez@norfolk.gov.uk.
