2012 is a very exciting year for Cambridge Artworks as it sees the launch of our ‘Call For Entries’ competition. This competition is open to all artists working or resident in the Eastern Region.

‘CALL FOR ENTRIES’ 2012

Cambridge Artworks are pleased to announce the launch of the first ‘Call for Entries’ competition, open to 2D visual artists, working or resident in the East of England. Shortlisted works will be exhibited in a curated exhibition at Cambridge Artspace Gallery, over the first two weekends of Cambridge Open Studios 2012 (7th, 8th, 14th, 15th July). A winner will be selected by Cambridge Artworks’ studio artists and will be offered a free Solo Exhibition in Spring 2013 with the benefit of Cambridge Artworks Ltd. mailing and publicity.

How To Apply:

Applicants must submit the following by 30th April 2012:

• CD with up to two good quality images of work per entry in jpeg format.
• One colour printed copy of each submitted work
• Printed copy of Artist’s statement (200 words maximum)
• Printed copy of Artist’s CV with name and contact details
• Brief outline of how a solo exhibition would help develop the artist’s practice (200 words maximum)
• Entry fee per submitted work: £10 for one entry, £18 for two, £25 for three (Cheques payable to “Cambridge Artworks Ltd”)
• Signed, completed copy of the Cambridge Artworks Entry Form (downloaded from the website below)

From abstracts to still life to landscapes, Richards graphic training is clearly evident throughout, marking a unique and distinctive talent. Richard’s legacy of work is as much a part of East Anglia as the scenes that inspired him. His work is widely collected and has been exhibited at galleries in London and throughout East Anglia. His wife Chris carries on the tradition today, exhibiting and selling prints of his work alongside her own photographs of East Anglian landscapes.

We are currently taking bookings for all artists for the coming year. Gallery space available from 2ft width, 6ft Height – ranging to 11ft width, 6ft height.  Main Gallery is available from March (No Bookings May or September) to December.  The Gallery Team is changing this year, with more volunteers to cope with additional workloads. At the height of the year, we coped with over 4000 visitors in one month, on average throughout the year we guarantee a 2000 footfall per month.  The gallery is regularly featured in many publications, and is supported by many businesses and clients, both for being dynamic and enthusiastic in its approach to supporting both clients and artists.

Olympics Art Competition for young people

Children across Norfolk are being given the chance to take part in an Olympics inspired competition that could see their work displayed at a city art gallery.

Norfolk County Council is organising the London 2012 art competition, which will see winning works displayed at Norwich’s Castle Museum.

The competition is open to all children and young people in the county and those successful in each category will also win an artist for a day, who will visit their school. Selected pieces will also be displayed in the county’s mobile libraries.

There are three categories, broken down into each school key stage. They are:

* Works that represents one of the Olympic and Paralympic values (excellence, friendship, respect, courage, determination, quality and inspiration).

* Works that represent an Olympian or Paralympian, past or present.

* Works on the theme of the Olympic torch relay, which is scheduled to pass through Norfolk.

Children and young people can enter art in any media, as long as it is two-dimensional and in A4, A3 or A2.

The competition closes on Friday 22 March 2012 and judging will be done by staff from Norfolk County Council’s Children’s and Community Services departments and Joseph Ballard from the London Organising Committee for the Olympic Games.

The winners in each category will have their work displayed at the Castle’s Art Gallery in the summer term, ahead of the opening of the London Olympics.

Alison Thomas, Cabinet Member for Children’s Services at Norfolk County Council, said: “This competition gives children and young people across the county the opportunity to have their work displayed in a public art gallery, meaning they will be seen by visitors from across the county, country and even overseas. It also gives schools and their pupils a chance to capture the spirit of the Games, think about its history, its purpose and the significance of having such a high profile event in their home nation.

“We are keen for schools to use the many educational opportunities the Olympic and Paralympic Games present across the curriculum, whether it is sport, art, maths, English or citizenship. The values of the Games are attributes we should all aspire to and qualities that we want to see in all of Norfolk’s children and young people. We hope that schools will embrace this competition and would urge as many young people as possible to take part.”

Find the Lowestoft Lowry!

Artists are invited to submit one or two pieces of creative work for an exhibition in the Lowestoft Arts Centre Gallery and other venues in the Old Lowestoft High Street to coincide with the Lowestoft Easter Arts Festival.

Guidelines –
1. Any art or craft medium including textiles and 3D.
2. Any subject, any style as long as it relates to some aspect of life in Norfolk or Suffolk . (You don’t have to paint like Lowry!)
3. Work must be original and the property of the artist.
4. Wall hung work must be ready to hang on the hanging system by a secure cord and in new condition. Unframed canvases are acceptable.
5. Hanging fee £1 per artist. Please label all work clearly on the back.
6. Work should preferably be for sale and will be subject to one third commission deducted from the sale price if sold.
7. The Organisers reserve the right to refuse a piece of work if for any reason it is not suitable for exhibition.

Landscape Art Workshops

Waveney & Blyth Arts & Black Dog Arts proudly present three Landscape Art Workshops with Katarzyna Coleman, Sarah Cannell and Mary Spicer.  Demand for places will be high, so email Jan now to provisionally book yours. Email jan@ollandstreet.co.uk

Each workshop will start with a 3/4 mile stroll through the last enchanted land of “The Saints”, a few miles outside Bungay, stopping en route to choose, draw and photograph an inspiring view.  Your view will be the basis of your landscape artwork.

The three artists have been chosen because they each use very different approaches to landscape art and very different techniques.

Sunday 15th April 11am to 3.30pm St James Village Orchard, South Elmham Hall and Minster
Katarzyna Coleman uses all kinds of black and white media – from charcoal to chalk.  Views are built up in layers, partly erased with putty and plastic rubbers, fixed with fixative, built up again……….    The results are magnificent, massive, misty land and townscapes.

Saturdays  21st and 28th July 11am to 3.30 pm both days.
Mary Spicer uses texture, as well as colour. Adding all manner of texture pastes, acrylics, coloured inks, ripped, torn and reassembled paper, to her compositions she produces powerful 3D mixed media paintings of the farmed landscape, often scarred and criss crossed by farm machinery.

Sarah Cannell uses “Plextol” to transfer parts of black and white photocopies of printouts of photographs onto MDF.  Embedded in the picture plane these prints form mysterious black and white focal points in the midst of haunting, acrylic & mixed media, colour paintings.

 Completed works will be shown  as part of “Celebrate the Waveney & Blyth” September 2012 programme, when the public will be invited to walk and enjoy the views for real – and the views’ artistic interpretations.

East Anglian Artists Development Prize

Artists under 40 living in Norfolk, Suffolk & Essex are invited to enter the East Anglian Artists Development Prize. The winner will receive a solo exhibition at Anteros Arts Foundation and £5000 to put towards training or a project that will further their artistic skills and career. An exhibition of shortlisted artists will be held in March/April.

Following the success of our last Surgery Day in November, we are hoping to help even more artists get online so we are hosting another day here at Barrington Farm on Wednesday 1st February 2012 between 10:00am – 1pm and 2pm – 5pm.

The Outside In team will help you photograph and upload your artwork, write your artist statement and sign you up for your online gallery. Places are limited. You can bring up to 5 pieces of artwork and your artists statement if you have already one. Please bring a helper with you if required.

Surgery Days are an opportunity to support artists to get their work online who may not have the skills or facilities to do so otherwise. The Outside In website allows artists to have a gallery where their work is shown to the public. This allows artists to have an online presence, creating ownership and access for the artist. It also provides a sense of community for artists who may otherwise feel isolated and allowing artists to gain new skills.

We would again like to invite Norfolk Open Studio artists to apply for shows in 2012.

We are a small and unique, volunteer run and not-for-profit gallery housed in a 400 year old alms house in Halesworth, Suffolk. Each year we have six shows, usually of three artists each though this is sometimes varied. Each show runs for two and a half weeks an the gallery fee is £80 with 25% commission taken on any sales. Artists are invited to submit work, CV and statement to the selection committee who will be planning the programme for 2012 in early January. Ideas for themed shows, group shows or individual proposals are welcomed.
