Our springtime Antiques Fair is fast approaching. It is an opportunity to source lovely, unique antiques and decorative arts in a friendly, rural setting at the Raveningham Centre. This year there will be 25 stalls featuring local dealers and enthusiasts. The Ravenous Cafe will be open for panninis, locally made cakes as well as hot bacon butties. There will also be a bar with local ale, don’t miss what will be a lovely day.

The Raveningham Centre is pleased to announce the new monthly Singing Workshop dates which will be led by the excellent Bridget Cousins.
The workshops are £10 per session (including tea/coffee) and take place in the Ravenous Cafe at The Raveningham Centre, (NR14 6NU).

About Bridget Cousins
Bridget has been leading community choirs since 1994. An experienced musician and performer in her own right, she founded Halesworth Community choir and the Gipping Valley Community choir and co-teaches the YoxVox singing group in Yoxford, Suffolk. She has worked extensively in Suffolk schools with the Sing Up programme and often works for Suffolk Artlink, taking musical activities to people who would not otherwise have the opportunity to enjoy them. She teaches an eclectic harmony repertoire which includes African, Balkan, Maori, French, British and German folk songs, Gospel and her own compositions.

SUMMER FOLK & TRADITIONAL MUSIC NIGHT at THE RAVENINGHAM CENTRE
Saturday 16th July, 7.30pm – 10.30pm. Admission Free
Since it’s launch in January this year, the new folk night at The Raveningham Centre has grown into an exciting a varied event.
Over recent months it has welcomed musicians from all corners of Norfolk, Suffolk and further afield including fiddlers, whistlers, flautists, box players, singers, guitarists, banjoists, clog dancers and stepdancers.
You never know what you will find when you arrive at the Ravenous Café, but you can be sure that with the variety of musicians, singers and dancers, there will be something for everyone.
The next night is July 16th (no event in August) and we will resume again on September 17th followed by October 15th, November 19th.
There is a licensed bar serving local beer and cider, homemade savoury and sweet snacks. We are always pleased to welcome new players and singers and listeners. If you play an instrument or sing please come and join us for our summer session. It is free to attend and runs from 7.30pm – 10.30pm

A special treat for lovers of all types of music, two passionate musicians perform live and free in the Ravenous Sunday afternoon series.
Amaia Gabantxo is an incredible singer of Basque Country origin, whose combination of charisma and vocal ability is all encompassing. Amaia who is now based in Norwich is a literary translator and musician whose work takes her all over the world (most recently New York and Istanbul) and draws influence on the traditional songs of the Basque Country together with Latin American music, Flamenco and renaissance and folk traditions.
Alan Taylor is also Norwich based and after studying classical and world music at City University in London, was a guitarist in several successful rock bands, touring throughout the UK and Europe before finding that his true love lay in classical and early guitar. Al has been studying with some of the UK’s finest classical players and Ravenous is very pleased that he is making a return visit with duo partner Amaia.

The performance is free and you can treat yourself to a warming bowl of delicious soup or lunch from our regular menu which includes panini’s, ravenous all day breakfasts and a scrumptious array of homemade cakes.

Sarah Cannell is running a 2 day mixed media painting workshop at The Ravenous Cafe, Raveningham Centre, near Beccles, on Tuesday 6th & Wednesday 7th April, 10 – 4pm.
Passing on techniques picked up from her time at Central St Martins art school, as well as approaches she uses in her own work, artist Sarah Cannell will show workshop participants how to transfer photographic images onto MDF and “embed” these images in acrylic paintings. Sarah’s own mixed media work can be seen at www.sarahcannell.co.uk

The course is part of the Black Dog Arts Garden Art Trail so the finished works will have the opportunity to be part of the summer exhibition in Bungay. The course is limited to 12 people so book quickly to avoid disappointment. Fees: £60 for the course/ £50 concessions.

In anticipation of Spring as the days slowly start to lengthen, The Ravenous Cafe at The Raveningham Centre is running an introduction to botanical drawing day, tutored by Ruth Wharrier BA PGCE, on Monday 25th January 2010, 10am – 4pm.
The day will cover an introduction to botany, recognising shape and form and creating light and shade. Ruth Wharrier has painted botanical and natural history subjects since childhood. She works in watercolour, gouache and pen and ink. Ruth is currently completing her studies in botanical illustration at the Chelsea Physic Garden in London.
Beginners are welcome and the workshop costs £40 in advance, lunch and refreshments included. Please bring drawing pencils and cartridge paper.

This one off evening will be a taster for what is hoped to become a regular evening through 2010. Ideal for practising artists wanting to keep their drawing skills fresh. On Sunday 26th July as part of the continuing Ravenous music series, the newly formed Waveney String Duo will be performing a free concert of classical music. Kate Reynolds (violin) and Kayleigh Simpson (cello) are classically trained music graduates with a passion for orchestral and chamber music.
They have extensive performing backgrounds and are making quite a name for themselves as fine performers. The duo are based in Norfolk and Suffolk and will be joined in the second half by accomplished pianist, John Stephens. Programme to include works by Gehot, Bréval, Glière, Mozart, Bridge & Rowley.

launching THE NEW ‘RAVENOUS’ VENUE

On Saturday 13th June Big Sky directed by Sian Croose will be performing at the newly converted Ravenous Arts Venue. Ravenous is home to local produce including homemade cakes, crafts, art and music.
A great opportunity to experience one of Norfolk’s most original choirs in an intimate setting. This well known Norwich based choir evolved from singing workshops back in 1985. It’s repertoire includes uplifting contemporary music written for the choir as well as an eclectic selection of traditional acapella music from around the world. With special guest appearances from Laura Cannell on fiddle and Adrian Lever on guitar.
