Plans are now underway for next year’s Out There International Festival of Street Arts and Circus, which will be happening in Great Yarmouth on the 8 and 9 September 2012 – a week earlier than usual. This is because the Out There Festival and specifically a new performance by Generik Vapeur (from the blue men and Bivouac fame!) will be part of the official 2012 Olympic events calendar. Joe Mackintosh, Chief Executive from SeaChange Arts says “Being part of the 2012 Olympic events is a great honor for the Out There Festival and will really help raise the profile of this local event and put Great Yarmouth firmly on the map as a cultural destination”.
Generik Vapeur’s new show – “Waterlitz” is commissioned through the ZEPA partnership, which partners organizers SeaChange Arts with eight major street arts festivals and producers in France and the UK. ZEPA is supported by the European cross border cooperation programme Interreg IVA France (Channel) England. This exciting new show will combine the highest quality street theatre with explosive pyrotechnics and breath-taking aerial stunts, Waterlitz is a mobile performance designed to astound the audience with spectacle whilst also challenging them to consider some of the biggest issues affecting the world today. Seachange Arts are currently identifying acts, performers and companies for the 2012 festival and also busily fund raising and seeking sponsorship for the 2012 festival from local businesses and partners.
SeaChange Arts wanted to express our sincere thanks to the public for all the donations made to the festival this year through donation buckets, barrels and the sale of specially designed Out There T-shirts. We raised in total £2,991.55 which will help contribute to programming of acts and performers next year. 2012 Out There should prove to be the biggest festival yet including the use of new indoor spaces for programming such as the newly renovated St George’s Theatre. Please look out on the Seachange Arts website (www.seachangearts.org.uk) for further upcoming details.

We have put the finishing touches to the line-up for the 4th edition of the Out There International Festival of Street Arts and Circus, and with acts coming from over 10 different countries this year’s event promises to be bigger than ever!
Come along to St George’s Park in Great Yarmouth on Saturday 17th and Sunday 18th September to see some astounding performances from some world-class acts, including a hilarious acrobatic duo from Sweden, a trampolining acrobatic troupe from Belgium and a jet-propelled thrill seeker from Austria!
This year’s event will see the triumphant return of French company ‘Les Trois Points De Suspension,’ who proved to be a smash hit at Out There in 2009. The company will be bringing their bouncy stilts show ‘Mr. Baryton’ to perform alongside shows by some brilliant performers from much closer to home.
Another act sure to get Great Yarmouth talking is the phenomenal ‘Mario, Queen Of The Circus.’ Fresh from a 4 year world tour, Mario comes briming with unbridled passion. An expert in both circus artistry and comedy, his unique mix of complex juggling tricks and universal sex appeal can only find release in the arena-rocking anthems of his favourite supergroup – Queen!
The Saturday programme will finish with a Seafront Spectacular on Great Yarmouth promenade, featuring acts from France, Ireland, The Netherland and the UK. Traditional Breton Dance Champions ‘Eostiged Ar Stangala’ will be inviting members of the public to join them in a 45 minute music and dance celebration, before the UK’s leading contemporary circus company ‘NoFit State Circus’ perform their spectacular new open-air show to finish the day in breathtaking style!

Shows will include an extra special one-off performance from The Rubberband Boy, plus some talented local young people will be taking to the stage alongside artists from NoFit State Circus, Hocus Pocus Theatre Company and local artist Hayley Bird to show off their circus skills in a brand new performance piece created especially for the festival!

Following on from last year’s “Out There” International Festival, SeaChange Arts has been awarded funding to the tune of nearly one million Euros to develop the festival over the next three years. Half the funding has come from the EU under the EU Inter-regional Programme, which means SeaChange is working with partners from Amiens, a town North of Paris, the lead partner for the project, Rouen and an organisation which runs projects throughout Britanny. In England the partners with SeaChange are the Winchester Hat Fair, Brighton Festival, Zap Art and Southampton City Council. The Great Yarmouth Borough Council is supporting the project along with other funders to complete the match funding.
Plans are already under way for this year’s “Out There” which will take place over the weekend of 19th and 20th September. The festival will focus on street arts and be centred around St.George’s Park. French tightrope walker Didier Pasquette will be walking across roof tops on the seafront and community groups are already getting involved in the carnival style opening parade on the Saturday morning.
Last year the first international Out There festival saw more than 100 performers and artists from Britain, France, Finland, Brazil, Spain, Uruguay, Cuba, Portugal and Belgium take part to entertain the public in various venues in Great Yarmouth. For more information go to www.outtherefestival.com.
