100% Norfolk

Posted: January 27th, 2012 | Author: eastcoastnet | Filed under: Uncategorized | Tags: , , | No Comments »

A show about the population of Norfolk… starring the population of Norfolk.  And you could be part of it!

We’re on the hunt for 100 men, women and children from across Norfolk to take part in performances of 100% Norfolk during the 2012 Norfolk & Norwich Festival.  But we’re not looking for just any 100 people.

Together, they need to be as representative of the county’s total population of 862,000 as possible. So, with 51% of the county’s population being female, we need to find 51 women and girls to take part. Other criteria will include age, location and place of birth, so by the time we’ve found our cast of 100, it will accurately represent the make-up of the entire population of Norfolk.

As well as individuals, we are also interested in groups or clubs taking part together. It will be a great opportunity for you to share your particular interest or skill and don’t worry you do not need to have experience of being on stage either.

The 100% Norfolk cast will then come together to create a unique show, combining personal stories and revealing insights into what it’s like to live in Norfolk in 2012. A must for anyone who loves the place they call home, 100% Norfolk will be an illuminating and uplifting celebration of our county and our people.

If you or your group are interested in taking part or if you would like anymore information then please contact 100percent@nnfestival.org.uk  or 01603 8777765

Would you like an online presence?
Would you like to write about your work?
Do you want your friends and people in the artworld to see your art?

Following the success of our last Surgery Day in November, we are hoping to help even more artists get online so we are hosting another day here at Barrington Farm on Wednesday 1st February 2012 between 10:00am – 1pm and 2pm – 5pm.

The Outside In team will help you photograph and upload your artwork, write your artist statement and sign you up for your online gallery. Places are limited. You can bring up to 5 pieces of artwork and your artists statement if you have already one. Please bring a helper with you if required.

To book your free 45 minute 1-2-1 session or for further information, please email roar_art@hotmail.com or call Sarah on 01692 650633

Surgery Days are an opportunity to support artists to get their work online who may not have the skills or facilities to do so otherwise. The Outside In website allows artists to have a gallery where their work is shown to the public. This allows artists to have an online presence, creating ownership and access for the artist. It also provides a sense of community for artists who may otherwise feel isolated and allowing artists to gain new skills.

Background information

Without Walls has been developed by the country’s most strategically significant street arts festivals with the aim of helping to develop and strengthen the landscape of outdoor performance in the UK. The festivals all share a commitment to working collaboratively to achieve a greater degree of sustainability for their respective festivals and the sector in general. By coming together to present and develop work from a new and emerging generation of street artists, the festivals aim to create a more secure environment within which new work can flourish and new audiences can be developed.

The eight member festivals are:  Lakes Alive www.lakesalive.org/  Norfolk & Norwich Festival www.nnfestival.org.uk  Brighton Festival – www.brightonfestival.org  X.trax, Manchester – www.xtrax.org.uk  Greenwich + Docklands International Festival London – www.festival.org  Winchester Hat Fair – www.hatfair.co.uk  Stockton International Riverside Festival – www.sirf.co.uk  The Bristol Do www.thebristoldo.com.  Our Associate partner is City of Bradford Metropolitan District Council.

TippingPoint offers a range of activities centred on exposing creative artists to the enormous challenges of climate change; at the heart of this lies a series of meetings involving very high quality, intense dialogue between artists, scientists and others close to the heart of the issue. Events take place in the UK working in tandem with Oxford University and internationally by working in collaboration with the British Council and other partners.

The Royal Society of Marine Artists (RSMA) is calling for entries from artists in coastal communities for a new prize to be awarded at its Annual Exhibition at London’s Mall Galleries in October. Sea Pictures Gallery is sponsoring a prize of £500 for paintings and sculptures on the subject of ‘People’s working relationship with the Sea’ to encourage the creation of figurative contemporary coastal art and to support awareness of the importance of the sea to the population of these islands.

Artworks for submission to the exhibition, which need to be accepted by the RSMA to qualify for the prize judging, have to be delivered to the Mall Galleries on the 13th September in person or by special arrangement following the instructions at www.mallgalleries.org.uk.  The correct labels and terms and conditions are to be found at this site.

‘Sea Pictures’ is a specialist marine art gallery that has recently re-established itself at Clare, in East Anglia having operated on the Internet for the last five years. Owners Sarah and Alaric Pugh are members of Sea Vision UK , the legacy organisation from the UK ’s Year of the Sea in 2005, and are keen supporters of the regeneration of Britain ’s coastal communities and our maritime heritage. Call to artists to get involved with climate change project

Posted: August 2nd, 2009 | Author: bridget | Filed under: Uncategorized | Tags: , | No Comments »

Norfolk artists are being encouraged to come forward and be part of a project which aims to use art to inspire Norfolk’s school children to tackle climate change.Norfolk County Council has 20 free places on a training course in October for artists who are interested in developing their work to support issues of sustainability and climate change.

A two day training course, based at the Sainsbury Centre for Visual Arts on October 13 and 20, will be followed by artists taking part in pilot sessions in Norfolk schools.

The artists will be featured in an ‘Artists for Climate Change’ directory which will be widely distributed across the county to schools, further education settings, museums and libraries – showcasing their work to those who may want to work with them on specific climate change projects.

Artists will need to have experience of working in schools and educational settings, and be subject to a satisfactory Criminal Records Bureau check and appropriate references.

The Artists for Climate Change initiative is supported by the University of East Anglia, the Sainsbury Centre for Visual Arts, UEA CRed and Cue East.

Guest keynotes speeches on the course will include Professor Tim O Riordan, Sherriff of Norwich and John Hartley, Ecology Officer, Arts Council England.
