New volunteer run organisation, “Waveney & Blyth Arts”, has been awarded a £9,349 grant from the Big Lottery Fund’s Awards for All programme.

The grant will mean that the organisation will be able to get posters and booklets designed and printed to publicise 16 short “creative” walks along the Waveney and Blyth valleys that will take place between Saturday 3rd and Sunday 18th September this year.

It will also mean that Waveney & Blyth Arts will be able to pay sessional fees to creative professionals to provide free creative activities on the walk routes.

As well as the walks the grant money will pay for a new, multimedia, web site, a camera and computer for shared use, and training for volunteers to learn how to make multimedia features for a new online monthly Waveney & Blyth multimedia arts magazine.

“We are thrilled with the grant” said Waveney & Blyth Arts secretary Jan Dungey. “Great Yarmouth and Waveney NHS are helping us organise the free walks – that will be strolls rather than hikes! – so that children and adults of all ages and abilities get the chance to enjoy the wonderful Waveney and beautiful Blyth – and be creative en route!”

The grant will also benefit the 200 or so creative community organisations in and around Diss, Harleston, Bungay, Beccles, Lowestoft and Great Yarmouth in the Waveney valley and Halesworth and Southwold in the Blyth valley who will be able to get free multimedia features made about their work and published online in the new Waveney and Blyth monthly multimedia magazine.

Jan added: “The Waveney and Blyth valleys are crammed with creative

talent, from the visual artists who take part in the Harleston & Waveney Art Trail, to the people who perform in Diss Corn Hall, the Fisher Theatre in

Bungay, The Cut in Halesworth, the Seagull Theatre in Lowestoft and venues galore in Great Yarmouth, to the singers in choral societies and bands, to poets, novelists and other creative writers, to circus performers, storytellers and puppeteers!

We hope the grant will help promote all these and put the Waveney and Blyth valleys firmly on the creative map”.

Closes 30th June 2011

Addenbrooke’s Arts is inviting submissions from artists working in sculpture for consideration for future commissions. Submissions will be retained as reference for future projects on the Cambridge University Hospitals campus.

Addenbrooke’s Arts is the arts project for Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, a large teaching hospital on the southern edge of Cambridge. The hospital serves the local community and is also a regional and national centre for excellence in healthcare.

Artwork and sculpture displayed in the hospital has the potential to dramatically improve the experience of patients, staff and visitors and so it is important that the selection process is done with the utmost of care and sensitivity. We endeavour to provide a wide variety of artwork, but when submitting your proposals please consider the limitations (of form and content) that are placed on artwork by being sited within a healthcare setting.

This opportunity is designed for sculptors working with different material and creating work on a range of scales for display internally and externally. It is not for a specific commission but selected artists may be invited approached to discuss specific possibilities for commissioning work for the hospital.

Please email your contact details, artist statement, a few photos of your work (small memory JPEG format appreciated) to arts@addenbrookes.nhs.uk

Norfolk will be hosting the county’s largest ever live sporting spectacle, the Tour of Britain cycle race on Thursday 16th September. Specific location timings will be announced at a later date, but the race will begin from the Market Place, King’s Lynn and end on South Beach Parade in Great Yarmouth, having covered one hundred and seventeen miles of the county’s roads.

As the UK’s biggest professional bicycle race and a centrepiece of the British sporting calendar the event will receive massive media coverage in the UK, and around the world, presenting a major opportunity for Norfolk artists, arts and cultural organisations to profile their work, promote special events and encourage new audiences. A website including dedicated pages and links for each district area is in development. To find out more about what is being planned in your local area and how you can get involved contact Fiona Roberts, Tour of Britain Manager for Norfolk : fiona.roberts@norfolk.gov.uk

EastCoastNet recommends signing up to receive Voluntary Arts England’s weekly e-newsletter to receive the latest news, including jobs, funding and events.

Voluntary Arts England is the national development agency for arts participation, raising awareness of the contribution that the voluntary and amateur arts and crafts make to the well-being of communities, social inclusion, lifelong learning, active citizenship and volunteering.

For example, there is useful information about Grassroots Grants which has funded thousands of projects, from sports for the disabled to arts for older people, activities for young people, counselling services, employment programmes, food parcel services, music groups and village halls. It is these small, volunteer led groups that make a real difference to the lives of local people, and often a small amount of money can go a long way.

To view the wealth of information available on the website click here.
