Waveney & Blyth Arts & Black Dog Arts proudly present three Landscape Art Workshops with Katarzyna Coleman, Sarah Cannell and Mary Spicer. Demand for places will be high, so email Jan now to provisionally book yours. Email jan@ollandstreet.co.uk
Each workshop will start with a 3/4 mile stroll through the last enchanted land of “The Saints”, a few miles outside Bungay, stopping en route to choose, draw and photograph an inspiring view. Your view will be the basis of your landscape artwork.
The three artists have been chosen because they each use very different approaches to landscape art and very different techniques.
Sunday 15th April 11am to 3.30pm St James Village Orchard, South Elmham Hall and Minster
Katarzyna Coleman uses all kinds of black and white media – from charcoal to chalk. Views are built up in layers, partly erased with putty and plastic rubbers, fixed with fixative, built up again………. The results are magnificent, massive, misty land and townscapes.
Saturdays 21st and 28th July 11am to 3.30 pm both days.
Mary Spicer uses texture, as well as colour. Adding all manner of texture pastes, acrylics, coloured inks, ripped, torn and reassembled paper, to her compositions she produces powerful 3D mixed media paintings of the farmed landscape, often scarred and criss crossed by farm machinery.
Dates to be confirmed
Sarah Cannell uses “Plextol” to transfer parts of black and white photocopies of printouts of photographs onto MDF. Embedded in the picture plane these prints form mysterious black and white focal points in the midst of haunting, acrylic & mixed media, colour paintings.
Completed works will be shown as part of “Celebrate the Waveney & Blyth” September 2012 programme, when the public will be invited to walk and enjoy the views for real – and the views’ artistic interpretations.

Transitions: past meets future! Free Art Workshop for the over 55’s and exhibition opportunity!
Saturday 16th October 11am to 3pm Education Room, Time and Tide Museum
Kate Coleman is delivering an exciting and unusual workshop at the Time and Tide Museum on Saturday, 16th October, offering the opportunity to view, discuss and draw selected museum objects not usually on display. These objects include domestic design icons, tools and leisure objects from the past 50 + years, which will no doubt evoke memories and inspiration. You will be able to make pencil, charcoal & pastel drawings and have the opportunity to make exciting prints. In addition to this, poet Rupert Mallin will be there to listen to and record your thoughts about memories raised by the objects. Resulting words and images will be exhibited at the Central Library in November.
Free admission to this workshop for pre-booked participants includes refreshments and materials. Participants must supply their own lunch. Normal admission applies to visit the museum.
Great Yarmouth artists group, ARC, has been funded by Awards for All to run Transitions, with the aim of profiling grassroots cultural life in the Borough, past and present.
Transitions will conclude with an exhibition at the Central Library from 10th-20th November 2010 and the interactive website www.eastcoastnet.org will be used to gather and share materials and as a focus for discussion as the project develops.

It is good to see the Cobholm Underpass Mural has at last been completed after a false start in 2010, when the ARC Artists Group was one of the lucky voluntary groups to be approved by people living in Cobholm, Southtown and Halfway House wards for a Neighbourhood Management “Your Neighbourhood, Your Decision” grant to run this project. Katarzyna Coleman, Chair of ARC, submitted a proposal to run workshops with local residents and the young people who use the nearby sports facilities to design and paint a mural in the underpass in Cobholm. However, thanks to difficulties getting permission for temporary closure of the underpass to traffic, the project was put on hold.
The project was finally completed in September 2012 by eight young people taking part in a four week project within the government’s National Citizen Service Project scheme, which aims to offer young people opportunities not generally available to them and to equip them with life skills whilst giving them a chance to offer something back to their neighbourhoods. The young people used the theme of the Olympics, Diamond Juibilee and youth culture generally to create decorative graffitti-type designs in strong, bright colours. The mural was unveiled by Anthony Ogogo, the Lowestoft boxing star.

Kate at the Underpass with Chris and Neil from Addison Decorations Ltd. who offered to support the first proposal for the project with professional advice.
The Neighbourhood Management team welcomes residents to come and talk about anything to do with life in the their wards.
