Wednesday Evening Dance

Valentines Dance
Saturday February 11th sees our Valentines dance at Gorleston too. A chance to dress up and be romantic?

Not Strictly Ballroom in Gorleston

Sadly the very popular Tower Ballroom closed several years ago. The site on Riverside Road, Gorleston is now the Kingfisher Boxing Club. However, after a break of three years, Not Strictly Ballroom are offering dancing classes there once again .

Midweek Wednesday Dance
A Relaxed Practice Night every Wednesday, 8-10pm £3 – bring your own drinks (not 21st or 28th December 2011)

Christmas Party, 10th December, £5. A sociable evening of ballroom, latin and fun dances.

New Year’s Eve Party, 31st December, £15 includes buffet. A sociable evening of ballroom, latin and fun dances.

“Everyone is welcome so don’t worry if you’ve not come to our dances for a while, or never been before, as this will be a great night for you to come along and experience our ‘Not Strictly Ballroom’. Whether you are a seasoned dancer or you can only manage a few steps you’ll enjoy the evening as there’s no pressure to get up on the floor if you don’t want to. It’s only £5 and you can bring along your own drinks and nibbles.”

Mid-Week Wednesday Dance
“If you fancy having a quick practise beforehand you could always join us on a Wednesday evening. It’s a friendly night with a relaxed atmosphere for just £3!”

Circle Dance Workshop for Children

Half-term activity at Bracecamp Hall, Ormesby St. Margaret. Wednesday 23rd February, 10.15 – 11.45 am. £2 adult, £1 child.

The workshop is led by a qualified and experienced teacher. The dances come from many different countries including South America, Africa, Greece, Hungary, Romania and the UK. If there is sufficient interest more workshops may follow. Each child must be accompanied by a responsible adult over 18. Please ring 01493 748830 for further details or to book.

Parablenalia “The Circus of Life”

A Production based on some Parables from the Bible. Music written and composed by Carol and Paul Clayton. It comprises, hilarious sketches, dancers, gymnasts, a large choir and numerous musicians. All Profits to benefit two charities, ie; Water Aid and East Coast Hospice. This promises to be an exciting show. Tickets are selling fast.

Parablenalia explained

The team of people who brought Blessed Be to you in 2008 have decided to take the time and effort to repeat the process with a new show entitled Parablenalia “The Circus of Life”. The choir, actors and stage team have arrived to the rehearsals from many different walks of life; some from churches in the area, a factor which we consider vital to the success of the show. The script has been written by Rachel Clarke and the music by Carol Clayton with dancers from the Norfolk Academy of Dance.

The motivation behind the show is to provide the audience and participants with an enjoyable but thought-provoking evening of entertainment at Gorleston Pavilion from the 16^th to the 19^th March at 7.30pm. The title Parablenalia explains the roots of the storyline; some parables have been adapted from Bible stories, others are freshly-written, exclusively for Parablenalia and provide sometimes a light-hearted insight into ourselves and the way we approach life, others are deeply thought provoking and allow us to consider our role in helping others. The charities which will benefit from the entire profits of the show are the East Coast Hospice and WaterAid. The East Coast Hospice is an independent local charity aiming to build an inpatient hospice combined with a day care centre close to the A12 between Gorleston and Lowestoft which will serve the people of the Great Yarmouth and Waveney area. WaterAid uses practical solutions to provide clean water, safe sanitation and hygiene education to the world’s poorest people The sketches in the show link to the charities of choice; in the case of WaterAid we see the problems faced by those people who urgently need help from charities like WaterAid, and for the East Coast Hospice a very moving sketch portrays the responsibilities of the carer which acknowledges the vital role they play. The main theme which is carried throughout the show is that we can all make a difference and the actors are repeatedly throwing this out as a challenge to members of the audience.

With numbers apparently declining in many churches in the area, this show aims to bring Church out from the church building and provide an opportunity to examine some aspects of the Church and other Christian faiths by providing an entertaining and enjoyable show which has a strong take home message of “make a difference” which is surely the main aim of many faiths and religions?

The DanceEast Academy

The DanceEast Academy is now recruiting for entry in September 2011.

The DanceEast Academy is a Centre for Advanced Training (CAT) in dance and offers young people with exceptional potential and talent, the opportunity to access high quality dance training.

The Academy is looking for enthusiastic, motivated young people aged 10-16 from the East of England, who have an interest in pursuing dance as a career. No previous formal dance training is required although experienced dancers are also encouraged to apply.

Means-tested grant funding is available for all successful applicants through the Department for Education’s Music and Dance Scheme.

The Norwich Open Days for 2011 entry will be held on Saturday, 26th March. Open Days are free but places must be booked in advance.

The Swinging Sixties

St. Nicholas Church Preservation Trust are presenting a one off re-union of well remembered local groups on Saturday 14th August, 7.30-10.30 p.m. at St. Nicholas Parish Church. Performing are: Marsden and the MB3, The Strangers, Rick-o-Shea and the Ramblers, The Sidewinders and others.

There will be a licenced bar, hog roast and tickets are only £5. Tiptoe Time, Tiptoe Ballet & Tiptoe Tappers

Tiptoe Ballet: An introduction to Ballet, teaches children the basic positions and techniques. They will be taught how to hold their body correctly, including how to hold their hands and how to point their toes. They will practice simple skills such as skipping and jumping to improve coordination, flexibility and confidence whilst having fun.

Tiptoe Time: An introduction to workshops for children aged 3 to 5yrs old. They train in each of the three disciplines, drama, dance and singing – for 35 minutes per week. In each class children will learn to express themselves more easily, gain poise, self confidence and self awareness.

Tiptoe Tappers: Tap is great for co-ordination and use of feet and ankles. It is a great way to strengthen ankles and learn different sounds, it will improve co-ordination, encourage creativity, increase confidence and develop rhythm and musicality.
