Posted: January 12th, 2013 | Author: eastcoastnet | Filed under: Uncategorized | Tags: , , , | No Comments »

The Upstairs Gallery in Beccles has a new mission this month.

On coming in to the gallery its not just purchasing arts and crafts that their customers want. Its advice and ideas too. The Upstairs Gallery has found that many want to do art classes in the New Year.

If you are an artist or can recommend and art class or group near you, could you please email the gallery on info@theupstairsgallery.co.uk with subject header ‘classes’, as the gallery would like to compile a list of regular classes in East Anglia and permanently display this in the gallery’s information area.

The Assembly House Art Show 2011

Posted: November 22nd, 2010 | Author: bridget | Filed under: Uncategorized | Tags: , , | No Comments »

Flying Colours: Fascinating Forms, 1st to 31st August 2011

This will be the first curated annual exhibition of Norfolk, Suffolk and Cambridgeshire 2D and 3D art at the newly-refurbished and revitalised, Grade I listed, Georgian Assembly House in the centre of Norwich.

The large Noverre Ballroom, with both wall hanging space and white, individually-lit screens, the more intimate Noverre Gallery, display cases, and two dedicated sculpture gardens combine to make this a striking showcase for art.

You are invited to put in proposals to be one of the first exhibitors in East Anglia’s newest and – we are confident – what will evolve to be one of the area’s leading annual art events.

There will be prizes awarded by an independent panel of experts, a full colour catalogue, a dedicated website, and promotion by The Assembly House’s professional press and public relations experts. The prizes will consist of £1,000 cash for the ‘Critics’ Choice’ and two runners-up prizes of £500 cash, plus a special £500 cash prize for the ‘Wittiest in Show’. What’s more, the winning artist will be given the opportunity to hold their own two-week show at The Assembly House the following year.

There will be an emphasis on contemporary art but the overriding criteria for selection will be quality not genre. For this first exhibition the curator will be looking for work in the following categories:

Painting and drawing (including collage), original prints, ceramics, installation, sculpture.

Work should normally be for sale. The Assembly House will charge a commission of 25% including VAT. Please note that work should be original and not have been displayed previously at any other venue. Selection will be on the basis of proposals submitted by Friday 14th January 2011 latest.  For further information and proposal forms email to artshow@assemblyhousenorwich.co.uk or write to Yvonne Millwood, Curator, Assembly House, Theatre Street, Norwich, NR2 1RQ
