NORWICH HARP FESTIVAL

Posted: January 20th, 2012 | Author: eastcoastnet | Filed under: Uncategorized | Tags: , , | No Comments »

As many of you will be aware by now, the first annual Norwich Harp Festival will shortly be upon us. It is being held at Thorpe St. Andrew School, 3rd March. This is not just for students as anybody can come along and listen to the participants, look at some beautiful harps, or just attend the afternoon recital by our esteemed adjudicator, Danielle Perrett.

The morning will kick off at 10am on 3rd March, with 5 classes ranging from beginners through to some rather advanced students. These classes will be critiqued by Danielle and each participant will receive a certificate to commemorate their involvement. We will have a short break for lunch (unfortunately not provided) then in the afternoon Danielle will play a selection of pieces to include the UK premiere of a new Harp Sonata by Stewart Green.

We are very lucky to be able to include this, and Stewart has kindly offered to be present on the day to sign copies of his books, many of which the students will have used. We also have the generous support of Pilgrim Harps at the event, who will be available to perform servicing and repairs on students’ harps. Please let me know if you would like your harp looked at. They will also be bringing a selection of their harps for students to play so if you are looking to buy a harp or upgrade, this is the perfect opportunity! Information supplied by  Rebecca Witts.  For more details click here

Landscape Art Workshops

Posted: January 18th, 2012 | Author: eastcoastnet | Filed under: Uncategorized | Tags: , , , , , | No Comments »

Waveney & Blyth Arts & Black Dog Arts proudly present three Landscape Art Workshops with Katarzyna Coleman, Sarah Cannell and Mary Spicer.  Demand for places will be high, so email Jan now to provisionally book yours. Email jan@ollandstreet.co.uk

Each workshop will start with a 3/4 mile stroll through the last enchanted land of “The Saints”, a few miles outside Bungay, stopping en route to choose, draw and photograph an inspiring view.  Your view will be the basis of your landscape artwork.

The three artists have been chosen because they each use very different approaches to landscape art and very different techniques.

Sunday 15th April 11am to 3.30pm St James Village Orchard, South Elmham Hall and Minster
Katarzyna Coleman uses all kinds of black and white media – from charcoal to chalk.  Views are built up in layers, partly erased with putty and plastic rubbers, fixed with fixative, built up again……….    The results are magnificent, massive, misty land and townscapes.

Saturdays  21st and 28th July 11am to 3.30 pm both days.
Mary Spicer uses texture, as well as colour. Adding all manner of texture pastes, acrylics, coloured inks, ripped, torn and reassembled paper, to her compositions she produces powerful 3D mixed media paintings of the farmed landscape, often scarred and criss crossed by farm machinery.

Dates to be confirmed
Sarah Cannell uses “Plextol” to transfer parts of black and white photocopies of printouts of photographs onto MDF.  Embedded in the picture plane these prints form mysterious black and white focal points in the midst of haunting, acrylic & mixed media, colour paintings.

Completed works will be shown  as part of “Celebrate the Waveney & Blyth” September 2012 programme, when the public will be invited to walk and enjoy the views for real – and the views’ artistic interpretations.

Creating Safety: child protection and youth arts
28th March 2012, 9.45am – 4pm, The Garage, Norwich

This one day course is essential training for anyone working within youth arts, but especially those using more physical art forms, such as dance and drama. The training will cover current child protection legislation in line with the requirements of the Criminal Records Bureau (CRB), within the context of delivering a youth arts project and includes a “safe touch” section, exploring how child protection guidelines can be maintained within more physical art forms.

It will be of benefit to individuals and organisations looking to develop their own child protection policy and maintain standards of good practice, providing practical advice and guidelines to develop confidence and sensible structures around child protection issues within youth arts.

All participants will receive a certificate of attendance upon successful completion of the course and a wealth of practical resources. There is a special rate fee of £75 available on this course.

For more information, or to request a booking form, please visit the Artswork website: www.artswork.org.uk/open-courses or contact the Professional Development Manager, Rachel Hall: rachel@artswork.org.uk  or call 02380 332491.
