St. Nicholas’ Church Preservation Trust (http://www.sncpt.co.uk) continues its fund raising to save the church’s organ with a Blessing of the Nets service, which will take place on Sunday 11th October 2009 at 6.30pm in St Nicholas’ church. This is a special service to re-create the medieval tradition of Blessing the Nets of the fishermen of the town before they went to sea. The service died out at the Reformation, but was briefly re-instated in the late Victorian age.

The service will consist of sea songs by the Masquers, hymns, prayers, and a talk on the historical aspects of the service. The service will be followed by a herring snack (ticket event) with cooked, rollmop and marinated herrings and potato salad. Wine will be available to purchase.

Tickets for the snack (priced £5) from Pam Boon, 5 Addison Road, Gorleston. NR30 0PA 01493 665862 or Paul Davies 01493 843647.

Cheques made payable to St Nicholas Church Preservation Trust.
