Scouting Book For Boys Norfolk Premier

Posted: March 9th, 2010 | Author: Em Payne | Filed under: Uncategorized | Tags: , | No Comments »

Norfolk has had a lot of films shot in the area, Stardust Elm Hill Norwich, The Duchess Swaffam, and lots more. Most people living in the area don’t even know these films are being shot. One of the films though that used all local extras and also employed local crew, like me :D and used one of Lowestoft’s biggest holiday camps Broadland Sands, it was no wonder the premier screening on Saturday 6th March was packed out.

The film looked amazing. It really showed off how beautiful Norfolk really is. This was all thanks to Robbie Ryan Director Of Photography, and Tom Harper Director. This was the second time seeing the film, as I went to the first screening back in May last year. I have been following the film as it toured the festivals world wide. The reviews of the film have all been amazing. Most rating the film with 4 or 5 stars out of 5. Empire magazine one of the biggest film magazines gave the film a rave review with 4 out of 5 stars. http://www.empireonline.com/reviews/reviewcomplete.asp?FID=136740

I definitally recommend going to see the film it has been described a sort of love story. It’s going to put Norfolk on the map, and hopefully it will give “Normal for Norfolk” a different meaning. Showing off the talent we have in this area.  Obviously you might think I am biased, because I worked on the film, and I want as many people to go see it (just to see my name in the credits, it’s Emily Payne Runner :D ). If you do think I’m biased go watch it for yourself. Cinema City Norwich 19th March it’s going to be massive.

A small fact Ivana Mackinnon who is the Producer of Scouting Book For Boys was Associate Producer on Slumdog Millionaire.

Waving At Trains starring Pete Postlethwaite

Happy New Year!!!

What a year, for films in this area it has been very slow. A lot of my work has lead me to different parts of the UK, mainly Cambridge, and Scotland.

Even though film work has been slow there is soon to be  a lot of films released that where shot in and around Norfolk. I went to a screening on Sunday for a film I worked on in October 2008. Waving At Trains starring Pete Postlethwaite. The film was shot in Sheringham and Aylsham. It was really great to see the film finished, it looked amazing! Hopefully the film will tour the festivals and do really well. Another notch on Norfolks film belt.

There is another film which was shot in Corton at the Broadland Sands Holiday park called Scouting Book For Boys. The film gets released on 19th March into cinemas over the UK. Definitely worth a watch. They used local crew and all of the extras where local too. If you would like to watch the trailer click on the link below.

AURORA | OUTPOST – Call for submissions

Posted: September 18th, 2009 | Author: bridget | Filed under: Uncategorized | Tags: , , , | No Comments »

OUTPOST and AURORA are calling for film submissions for a collaborative screening to be held as part of AURORA 2009 on Sunday 8 November. If you would like your work to be considered for inclusion in this screening, please send any new moving image work to OUTPOST by Friday 16th October.  The final selection will be made by Adam Pugh, Director of AURORA and the OUTPOST steering committee.

Please send submissions to: OUTPOST, 10b Wensum Street , Tombland, Norwich , NR3 1HR. Work should be submitted on DVD.

AURORA is a festival based in Norwich which focuses on the moving image in the most diffuse sense. This year, for its last ever edition, the festival will run from 5 – 15 November at Norwich Arts Centre, and other venues across the city. For 2009, the festival theme is ‘Common Ground’. Straying from anthropological and ethnographic studies to oblique explorations of myth and the representation of reality, the theme leads to an entirely literal reading of the ‘common ground’ in which ecology collides with social history and direct action.

If you have any queries please contact: ellie@norwichoutpost.org.  For more information about AURORA , please visit www.aurora.org.uk  or pick up a festival guide.  For more information about OUTPOST click here.

Early hours of a North Nofolk morning you see a man digging close up of his face., sweat dripping off him BANG!! His spade hits something hard……CUT!!!

Take 1

Wood Norton mid evening a small film crew shooting scenes in a small cottage in the middle if the countryside. The eerie sound of a bell…..CUT!!

Take 2

Just finished on a short film camera assisting. I got loads from the shoot, and I think I have nearly mastered the clapperboard, which looks easy, but can be difficult at times. The crew was fantastic really friendly, The shoot was such a laugh. There was never a dull moment on set. MARK IT!!!

Take 3

We where shooting in a small cottage which if you where any taller then 5′5″ you where likely to bang your head on a door frame, because the ceiling was quite low. The cottage had such a great atmosphere which really did help the eeriness of the film. It was a tough shoot very fast paste averaging about 40 slates (shots) a day. Always had to be on your toes constantly listening to what was happening next. :0)

CUT!!!  That’s a WRAP everyone thank you :D

Was nearly Curtains in Edinburgh

Hey Everyone

I have just had the most amazing weekend.  I travelled up to Edinburgh for the weekend, because a short film I worked on last year in Great Yarmouth had it’s premier screening at the Edinburgh International Film Festival. The film is called Curtains directed by Jullian Barratt (The Mighty Boosh), and Dan Jemmett.

The Friday started off really well. The sun was shining, it was a beautiful morning, at 5:45 when I got up. I was so organised it was unbelievable, for me anyway. I was in work early, and nothing seemed like it could go wrong…..  until I pulled off a handle off a door at work, and then chucked ink all over my paper work, because I didn’t realise my pen was leaking. I then handed in my ink dripping paper work, but didn’t tell my boss and ran for it :D , but then halfway down the road realised I still had keys that work needed in my pocket.  The day was going well, and we hadn’t even started our journey to Edinburgh.

We finally left Beccles at 2:45 – 15 minutes later than I had planned. We had a long drive ahead, and it was very interesting especially when we realised we didn’t have any directions to get home. Thankfully to keep our spirits up the sun was still shining, and we were trying to find some of the best bridges between Beccles, and Edinburgh. There was a winner, The Sutton Bridge  -can’t remember where it was though. I think it was in Lincoln. Anyway we reached Durham where I picked up my final friend, and we were ready to face the final part of the journey….. when I got a phone call from the Production manager on Curtains,  Emily Blickem (www.madandbad.co.uk) . She asked me if I had b0oked tickets for the screening. My reply was of course, I mean what kind of person drives half way across the country, and doesn’t book tickets? (I’m being sarcastic) ha ha ha.  Emily then went on to tell me that the screening was sold out. All I could do at this point was laugh. I had driven with 3 of my friends half way across the country to see a film, and it was very likely now we weren’t going to get to see it. We decided to go to Edinburgh even though the chances where very slim of getting to see the film. We arrived in Edinburgh about 11:30pm. The sat nav was going crazy we ended up getting lost for a good half an hour until we decided to ditch the car and walk to find the hostel. Finally made it to the hostel at midnight, and went to bed after a knackeringly bad day.

8:00am up and ready to face another day, and hopefully a better one. I was very anxious about whether we would get to see the film or not. Emily had told us to get there early, because there maybe some tickets that people might not want at the last minute. We made our way to the cinema for 11:00am. It was chucking it down with rain, and I was the only one who didn’t bring a coat. This was how the weekend I thought would carry on. We got to the cinema a bit soaked (only me), and by some miracle they had 4 tickets spare that people hadn’t wanted. The last 4 tickets what are the odds. We got to see Curtains. It was a fantastic film, so funny, had me in stitches. Thought it was brilliant. It got a fantastic response from everyone. There was also another film that we saw called After Tomorrow that was also funded like Curtains by Screen East. This was also an excellent film, and had such a great story, and twist to it.

Had a fantastic time in Edinburgh for the rest of the weekend sight seeing. Then had a 12 hour trip back home which was interesting, but funny. From this whole trip I have learnt not to be organised ever again, because things run smoother when I’m not organised than they do when I am!
