The ARC Artists Group was one of the  lucky voluntary groups to be approved by people living in Cobholm, Southtown and Halfway House wards for a Neighbourhood Management  “Your Neighbourhood, Your Decision” grant .  Katarzyna Coleman, Chair of ARC, submitted a proposal to start a project to run workshops with local residents and the young people who use the nearby sports facilities to design and paint a mural in the underpass in Cobholm.

"Addison Decorations Ltd. and Kate at Underpass"

Kate at the Underpass with Chris and Neil from Addison Decorations Ltd.  who have offered to support the project with professional advice.

£10,000 altogether was allocated for projects which will benefit local people, around £500 available per project, with all project ideas being put forward by residents and local organisations.   The results of the voting were announced on the 25th March 2010 at the Edward Worlledge School, Suffolk Road, an occasion that genuinely felt like a celebration of community spirit. Congratulations to Holly and Erika for such a successful start to this neighbourhood initiative.

The team is now based at 110 Lichfield Road where residents are welcome to come and talk about anything to do with life in the three wards.  Further neighbourhood gatherings have been organised for 16th April, Southtown Neighbourhood Group, Lichfield Community Centre, 10.30 a.m.; 20th April Cobholm Neighbourhood Group, Cobholm Primary School, 1.30 p.m.; 21st April, Halfway House Neighbourhood Group, Claydon Pavilion Community Centre, 10.30 a.m.

Actors Wanted for Lord Mayor’s Procession, Norwich

Posted: June 27th, 2009 | Author: bridget | Filed under: Uncategorized | Tags: | No Comments »

NORCA  (Norwich and Norfolk Community Arts) have been granted funded to co-ordinate a new carnival project to lead the Lord Mayor’s Street Procession on the 11th July.  Volunteer actors are being invited to work with Dende Collective, the Anglo-Brazilian theatre company that played a major role in the Out There International Festival presented by SeaChange Arts in Great Yarmouth last year, when  professional artists and members of the Gt. Yarmouth community worked together to create the vibrant “C-Attack!” show.  This is another opportunity for anybody wishing to develop street theatre skills:  the actors will be creating groups of characters to interact with the main characters in the procession and with the audience.

The closing date for registration is 30th June, 2009.  For more information about the project, contact Cathie Davies, Carnival Co-ordinator at NORCA on 01603 400244 or email to cathie@norcarts.co.uk.

Collage Workshop

Collage Workshop

ARC membership is made up of artists living or working in and around Great Yarmouth who are interested in community arts activity and promoting the arts in the Borough.  All the members have a great deal of experience in organising and leading visual arts workshops such as the popular family workshops that ARC  held at the Time and Tide Museum as part of  The Big Draw 2007.  An example of their activities can be viewed on http://greatyarmouthartists.blogspot.com.  Any enquiries to the Chair here.
