The Great Yarmouth Guild of Artists and Craftsman has taken the initiative to use empty retail space in 67-70 Victoria Arcade as a temporary gallery. The exhibition celebrates the Guild’s 60th anniversary and is being held for three months from 1st July 2009, in partnership with the owners Millers Developments. The exhibition is open from 10.00 – 16.oo hrs, Monday to Saturday.
The Guild has a distinguished history, having been founded in 1949 by William Corrie to provide a common meeting ground for artists and craftsmen. Norfolk artist Edward Seago served as the first president.
Unfortunately the Guild has not been able to secure any funding to support this intiative, inspite of the Government’s wish to encourage creative thinking to revive town centres in recession. Earlier this year, Communities Secretary, Hazel Blears, announced a plan to beat the recession by encouraging creativity in local communities. The government will give £3 million worth of grants and waive normal planning regulations to allow artists and anyone with creative ideas to take over empty shops and lots vacated because of the credit crunch.
Blears was joined by Culture Secretary Andy Burnham who added “Culture and creativity are part of the answer to tough economic times.”

Early hours of a North Nofolk morning you see a man digging close up of his face., sweat dripping off him BANG!! His spade hits something hard……CUT!!!
Take 1
Wood Norton mid evening a small film crew shooting scenes in a small cottage in the middle if the countryside. The eerie sound of a bell…..CUT!!
Take 2
Just finished on a short film camera assisting. I got loads from the shoot, and I think I have nearly mastered the clapperboard, which looks easy, but can be difficult at times. The crew was fantastic really friendly, The shoot was such a laugh. There was never a dull moment on set. MARK IT!!!
Take 3
We where shooting in a small cottage which if you where any taller then 5’5″ you where likely to bang your head on a door frame, because the ceiling was quite low. The cottage had such a great atmosphere which really did help the eeriness of the film. It was a tough shoot very fast paste averaging about 40 slates (shots) a day. Always had to be on your toes constantly listening to what was happening next. :0)
CUT!!! That’s a WRAP everyone thank you

I AM A “POOR” FILM-MAKER; I’M MAKING AN INDEPENDENT FILM ABOUT “EMOTIONAL ILLNESSES IN THE COMMUNITY”.
I NEED SOME HELP TO DO THAT, HAVE SPOKEN TO SEVERAL ORGANIZATIONS IN G. YARMOUTH , THE FEEDBACK WAS:- WE’RE SORRY, HAVE NO SUPPORT FOR SINGLE PEOPLE!!
-THANKS!!
SO, I AM A SINGLE PERSON,
” ” A SINGLE DAD,
” ” A SINGLE PHOTOGRAPHER,
” ” A SINGLE FILM-MAKER,
” ” A SINGLE ARTIST.
THIS IS CALLED ARTISTIC DISCRIMINATION.
ART FOR ART’S SAKE!
AM I LOST??

LET’S TALK ABOUT ART IN G.YARMOUTH.
IT IS THE MOST DEPRESSIVE AREA TO WORK PROFESSIONALY.
I KNOW, I’M NOT IN LONDON, LISBON, PARIS!
ART IS CULTURE, ART IS QUALITY OF LIFE, POSITIVE CONTRIBUTION, CHOICE AND CONTROL, HAPPINESS.
I FEEL MYSELF SAD, SOMETIMES ANGRY, DEPRESSIVE, ISOLATED, DISCRIMINATED.
THERE’S NO FEEDBACK!
ART NEEDS BIG VISIONS, BIG AIMS, HIGH QUALITY DECISIONS FROM LEADERS TO DEVELOP ARTS, PUTTING YARMOUTH ON… MAP.
THERE IS NO ART IN G. YARMOUTH, JUST SOME BRAVE ARTISTS. THE ARTS ORGANIZATIONS WORK IN CIRCLES, NOT FOR PEOPLE, NOT FOR ARTISTS, NOT FOR ART.
PLEASE, PUT PEOPLE FIRST, GIVING TO THE PEOPLE WHAT PEOPLE WANT.
PLEASE, ART IS LOVE, OPEN YOUR MIND, TRY, THERE’S A LOT TO EXPLORE.
